April showers might bring May flowers but come July, and we have to pick up the pace. June is for the quiet; to let nature change her colors into that of Summer more fully and then, change herself into Monsoon.
But July?
July is for playing catch up.
I am sure you are tired of the obligatory greetings too by now.
“How are you?”
“I am fine.”
“I hope things go back to normal soon.”
And nothing changes, but everything is different somehow.
So I won’t tire you with that.
July is for playing catch up with who we have become.
I didn’t write you a letter for June, not because there wasn’t much to say, but because there was so much I couldn’t put together in a manner coherent enough to get to you.
So here we are: well into July.
Come July, and stillness fades into the inherent need to move and do things.
I wasn’t sure I would write a letter to you this month, but I didn’t want to miss it either.
And I have so much to tell you!
I have always liked different mediums of art and even social media; I love seeing what you can do on each platform and playing around with all the features on there.
I started my Instagram account on a whim, and I wasn’t too sure if I would keep up with it or if it would grow, and nor was I bothered. Art is about fun, isn’t it?
But that tiny baby recently turned one and I had to do something special of course!
I wrote poems with some wonderful people I got to meet, interact with and read because of Instagram. (You can read them on the Instagram page)
It was so much fun (and a lot of work, but mostly fun :p) to get to write in the styles of so many different people and to come up with a theme, and then write in a way which reflected, well, us really.
I also ran a super-secret project where I wrote a poem after everyone’s poems in SparkiPoemi (a very beloved poetry group where we hang out and read each other poetry and offer suggestions and kindness), which was quite fun.
SparkiPoemi also happens to be the reason I took my literary shenanigans to Instagram.
Also: It has been a little over a month but we also celebrated our One Year Anniversary at SparkiPoemi recently. To celebrate, as one often does, we wrote an Anthology together! Everyone is so talented and the book is literally literary gorgeousness with words that come to life and make you feel alive.

So, I guess I am trying to say that July was filled with poems and balancing acts.
There were a lot of pictures, in places so beautiful you couldn’t ever dress up to that level of extravagance for; there were lots of movies and ice cream and sneaking out to pet the sweetest little (and big) dogs; but mostly, there were a lot of poems and pictures.
July is for summer and poetry.
……………
I think I made too much art to slow down and read something or devour any literature (extensively). But I recently found the beloved Percy Jackson books and I think it is fun to still have things meant for kids that I can discover. I really like them, and it is only fair given my love for mythology in general, even without having extensive knowledge of any particular one. I am only two and a half books in, but I adore them. They are written quite well, without the use of any complicated (and often illogical) plot twists that you expect to find in literature usually. It makes me feel like a child who discovers something they love for the very first time. I am trying not to read all the books at once, and to savour the feeling.
I also started reading ‘American Gods’ by Neil Gaiman and it is beginning to get quite exciting! There are also a few Penguin Classics from the Mass-market Paperback collection that have found themselves in my hold, but that has been about it.
I will pick up more books and make sure I put them away only when I have read the whole thing. But for now, this is all I have for you.
May August find it in her heart to forgive us and grant us happiness.
Thank you for the pleasure of your attention and may you find my company as charming as I find yours.
Until next time! :)
